When your spine and nervous system are in balance, your body will always work toward performing at peak levels and will have the maximum amount of energy available with which to do this.
An aligned and balanced spine allows the nerve pathways between your brain and body to be free and clear for optimum communication. When your brain receives clear feedback from your body, it can reply with clear and balanced instructions for coordinated action.
Balance comes in many forms and is always good. Seek balance!
Health Tips
- Eat thoughtfully.
- Pay attention to and respect your body’s limitations. Don’t overdo.
- Relax—do something you enjoy to get out of life’s ruts.
- Sit straight while in a chair, supporting your lower back and only crossing your legs at your ankles.
- If working at a computer, get up, stretch and walk around every 30-60 minutes or so.
- Walk instead of drive whenever you can.
- Get enough sleep.
- Use a pillow between or under your knees when lying down to reduce stress on your lower back
- Sleep on your back or on your side—never on your stomach! Use a pillow of the appropriate size to support your neck and head in a neutral position.
- Lift and carry weight properly by bending your legs rather than your back. Get help or make multiple trips rather than risk injury. Hauling a bucket of rocks, you say? Get two buckets, split the load and carry in balance.
- Do things more slowly and deliberately, especially when under stress.
- Do not overreach for items on top shelves or at the back of cabinets.
- Remove stresses, whether they be physical, chemical, or emotional, from your environment.
- Remove yourself from stressful environments, whether they be physical, chemical, or emotional.
- Do your best to cultivate a cheerful attitude and keep a sense of humor.
